Class FAQs

Where do your classes take place?

Our classes are designed to be flexible and accessible, so they’re offered in two formats:

Remote Learning

You can join classes online from anywhere, making it easy to participate no matter your schedule or location.

In‑Person Sessions

We also hold classes in person at one of our designated classrooms, giving students the option for hands‑on, face‑to‑face learning.

Retreat‑Based Classes

Some programs are offered on‑site at our retreats, where the learning experience is woven into the retreat environment.

Is there a skill level required to attend your classes?

While many of our classes are designed for a particular skill level, it is not a requirement that you have attained the listed skill in order to attend.

Do your classes have enrollment deadlines?

Yes, here’s a clear breakdown of how our enrollment timelines work so you always know what to expect.

Remote (Online) Classes

Must be enrolled at least one day before the class begins.

We strongly encourage registering two weeks in advance, since classes may be canceled if the minimum number of students isn’t met one week before the start date.

In‑Person Classes (Designated Classrooms)

Enrollment is required at least 31 days before the class begins.

Retreat-Based Classes

Reserve your spot at least 31 days before the retreat starts.

If you’re planning ahead or juggling a busy schedule, these timelines help ensure you get the spot you want — and help us keep classes running smoothly. If you’d like help choosing a class or figuring out timing, we're happy to walk through options with you.

Will I receive any scholastic credits for attending any of your classes?

While our classes are designed to elevate your skills, you will not receive any credits.

Can you guarantee that I will pass an examination if I attend one of your classes?

While we believe that attending a class would certainly make you more proficient in that field, we do not guarantee that attending a class will ensure that you pass any tests.

Are there certain supplies that I should bring to class?

Each class is different; some require that you bring supplies, while others provide them to you; a list of required supplies should be listed on a class's page.

Is there a dress code required to attend your classes?

Yes, we do require that you ensure that your clothing is not too revealing and does not include language or illustrations that would be upsetting to others.

Will you provide me with a recording of a class if I miss one?

No, classes are meant to be a place where students feel as though they can express themselves, within reason.

Do you provide refunds?

With the exception of a class being canceled by us, all sales are final; thus, refunds are not issued.

We may, however, at our discretion, provide a full or partial refund in the form of a Birch & Ink certificate that can be used towards another class or our other services.

What happens if I'm late or I miss a class?

If you arrive late or miss a class, you may be able to get the missed material from your instructor.

Is there an age requirement to attend your classes?

We love offering classes to people of all ages. With this in mind, we don't believe that an individual should be restricted from a class simply due to her or his age. We do, however, require that a parent or guardian of anyone under the age of 18 years provide written consent that the child can attend our classes.

How do I enroll in a writing class?

Enrolling is simple. Just reach out through the contact form on the site and let us know you’re interested in a writing class. We’ll follow up with available times, class options, and next steps. If you already have a project or goal in mind, feel free to mention it so we can recommend the best fit.
